Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Oscar-winning chief creative officer and the BAFTA-winning French director to be awarded at the upcoming festival, which runs June 13-18.
Walt Disney Animation Studios (WDAS) chief creative officer and Oscar-winning filmmaker Jennifer Lee, along with BAFTA and Annecy Cristal-winning director Michel Ocelot, will be awarded the Honorary Cristal at this year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
Lee most recently executive produced the Academy Award-winning film Encanto as well as Raya and the Last Dragon; she also is executive producing the upcoming Disney+ projects Baymax, Zootopia+, and Iwáju. Lee took home an Oscar, BAFTA, and Annie Award for directing the 2013 blockbuster musical, Frozen. Her career with WDAS began March 2011, when she joined the 2012 Oscar-nominated adventure Wreck-It Ralph as co-writer. Lee will receive the Honorary Cristal on June 17.
Ocelot, French writer, designer, storyboard artist, and director, best known for his 1998 Annecy Cristal-award winning feature Kirikou and the Sorceress as well as his 1981 BAFTA Award-winning feature, Les 3 inventeurs, will receive the Honorary Cristal during the screening of his latest film, Le Pharaon, le Sauvage on June 14.
Festival Artistic Director, Marcel Jean, said, “…the return of the Annecy Festival to its pre-pandemic state is the reason behind awarding two Honorary Cristals, one each to two exceptional personalities who have marked the recent history of animation film, on both sides of the Atlantic."
