‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ Trailer Returns Aliens to Earth

New trailer for the follow-up to Roland Emmerich’s 1996 sci-fi action thriller showcases visual effects from MPC, Scanline VFX, Image Engine and LUXX Studios.

Twentieth Century Fox has unveiled a new trailer for upcoming sequel Independence Day: Resurgence, the follow-up to Roland Emmerich’s 1996 sci-fi action thriller.

Set 20 years after the events of the first movie, which won an Academy Award for visual effects after it was first released, Independence Day: Resurgence stars Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher and Maika Monroe along with a ton of CG military tech and extra-terrestrial demolition.

The VFX for the film are made by MPC, Scanline VFX, Image Engine and LUXX Studios under the supervision of Production VFX Supervisor Volker Engel.

Here’s the official synopsis:

We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

Directed by Directed by Roland Emmerich, Independence Day: Resurgence is slated to arrive in theaters June 24, 2016.
