‘Ice Age 6’ Replaces ‘Star Wars’ on Disney’s 2026 Theatrical Slate

An untitled film in the long running sci-fi fantasy franchise, set for a December 18, 2026 release, was just replaced by the 3DCG film that resurrects the ‘Ice Age’ theatrical franchise.

We sense a disturbance in the Force. And a welcome resurrection. Disney has removed an untitled ‘Star Wars’ film from its slate, and placed Ice Age 6 in the vacated December 18, 2026 release slot, according to Variety. While it is unclear which Lucasfilm project was kicked from the schedule, we do know that Daisy Ridley is set to reprise her role as Rey in an upcoming film.

The next confirmed Star Wars film, The Mandalorian and Grogu, is still set to premiere in May 2026. Another untitled Star Wars feature remains on the slate for a December 17, 2027 release.

Production for Ice Age 6 was officially announced by Disney and 20th Century Animation during D23 Brazil earlier this month. The upcoming installment in the beloved 3DCG franchise will be the first to release in theaters under Disney’s ownership after purchasing – and then shutting down – Blue Sky Studios as part of its 21st Century Fox film and TV asset purchase back in 2019.
