Ibero-American Animation Quirino Awards Postponed

3rd edition, previously set for April 16-18 in Tenerife, Spain, will not be held; plans for online edition will soon be released.

In response to the growing coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, the 3rd edition of the Ibero-American Animation Quirino Awards, taking place April 16 – 18 in Tenerife, Spain, has been postponed. New dates for a digital event that will include the co-production and business forum as well as the awards ceremony, will be announced soon. Details for the online edition will be communicated shortly to all participants.

22 films had been previously been selected to compete for the awards in nine categories, reflecting the diversity of animation produced in the Ibero- American space. Submissions were received from Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Bolivia, Columbia, and Paraguay.

The organizers commented, “This digital edition is being planned to maintain the same objectives of paying tribute to Ibero-American talent and creativity. In addition, it will enhance the co-production and business forum by making a digital version, supporting the economic development of the sector through online meetings so that the animation industry continues to produce and evolve despite the current situation. The organization of the Quirino Awards appreciates all the expressions of support received in recent weeks and the understanding of all the participants, collaborators and sponsors of the event.”
