The ‘Rick and Morty’ and ‘Solar Opposites’ co-creator teams with ‘YOLO: Crystal Fantasy’s creator on a new family animated comedy about an Aussie dad living a not too secret life as a suburban superhero – he has no powers, but he does have passion!
The family comedy features a dad who lives a not-so-secret identity as Koala Man, an Australian suburban superhero with no powers, but with a burning passion to snuff out petty crime and bring order to the community.
Koala Man is created by Cusack, with Samit and Hernandez serving as showrunners. The series is produced by 20th Television Animation - a unit of Disney Television Studios - the company behind Hulu’s hit adult animated Original series Solar Opposites. Rick and Morty and Solar Opposites co-creator Justin Roiland executive produces along with Cusack, Samit, Hernandez, Princess Pictures, and Bento Box.
Cusack is known for his internet hits including Ciggy Butt Brain featuring his cult favorites Damo & Darren, as well as his off the wall Rick and Morty April Fools special Bushworld Adventures for Adult Swim. In 2020 he released his first series YOLO: Crystal Fantasy on Adult Swim and HBO Max.
Hernandez and Samit are writer-producers whose television credits include Central Park, the Peabody-nominated One Day at a Time, The Tick, Super Fun Night, and 1600 Penn. Their show Ultra Violet & Blue Demon, starring internationally famous luchador, Blue Demon Jr., was recently ordered to series at Disney Channel. They are currently developing multiple shows under their overall with 20th Television. They also wrote Pokémon Detective Pikachu, which in 2019 grossed 433 million dollars at the box office
Solar Opposites debuted May 8, 2020 and is the streaming platform’s most-watched Hulu Original comedy premiere of the year. Koala Man joins Hulu’s growing slate of adult animated Original series including Solar Opposites, Crossing Swords, and the upcoming Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. (5/21) and Marvel’s Hit Monkey.
