Hornet’s newest directing duo, Emmanuelle & Julien, baked up a whimsical gingerbread world for US Cellular this Christmas season. Via agency Mullen, the charming 15-second spot takes viewers into the home of a not-so-cookie-cutter family who recently indulged in a tempting deal from the mobile provider.
True to their creative nature, Emmanuelle & Julien loaded this project’s candy clad environment with intimate details and in-depth character backstories.
“It was cool for us to think about the traits and personalities of this very small gingerbread family and to build their world -- we really wanted to give a full picture of their life, everything from their pets to their favorite spot on the couch,” commented Emmanuelle.
Playful design and clever, stop motion-like 3D animation create a light atmosphere throughout the video, while subtle and well-timed humor tie the story together.
“Both the client and agency gave us lots of support and creative liberty during production, so we felt very comfortable and invested in this campaign. This is exactly the kind of work that we love doing!” added Julien.
“Gingerbread” is the first project Emmanuelle & Julien have directed on the Hornet roster, who come via French partners ChezEddy. Their comical approach, fresh designs and knack for storytelling have landed them much recognition in the 3D community, as can be seen in their award winning short film, A La Française, and most recently in their multi-spot comedy campaign for Brossard Brownies.
