HollyShorts Film Festival Unveils Schedule and Line-Up

The Oscar-qualifying event returns August 11-20 with programs featuring both adult and family-friendly animation; films to screen at the TCL Chinese 6 Theatres include ‘New Moon’ by Emmy nominee Colman Domingo, ‘Five Cents’ by Aaron Hughes, and Cannes Selection 2022 ‘Scale’ by Joseph Pierce.

The 18th edition of the HollyShorts Film Festival is back, running August 11-20 at TCL Chinese 6 Theatres. The Oscar-qualifying event has announced its lineup of animated short films, including Emmy nominee Colman Domingo’s New Moon, an imaginative surrealist journey of a young boy and his mother chasing their inner-city dreams.

Other notable films include:

  • Five Cents – directed by Aaron Hughes and starring Emmy Award-winner Brian Cox (Succession)
  • Ninety-five Senses - directed by Jerusha Hess (Austenland, Napoleon Dynamite, Don Verdean) and Jared Hess (Minecraft, Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre), written by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer
  • Scale (Cannes Selection 2022) - directed by Joseph Pierce
  • Domenica and Constanza Castro’s We Are Here (Sundance Selection 2022) – directed by the Castro Sisters
  • Saint Android (Cannes Cinéfondation 2021) – directed by Lukas von Berg
