Heidi Wittlinger’s ‘Nighty Night Circus’ Arrives for iOS

Oscar nominee releases sequel to popular bedtime app that mixes painstakingly constructed paper and props with 2D illustration and animation.

German animator (and Oscar nominee) Heidi Wittlinger has just released a new mobile app for developer Fox and Sheep called Nighty Night Circus.

A graduate of Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, Wittlinger’s short film Das Rad (The Wheel) received an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Short in 2002. Wittlinger has also received numerous awards for her 2004 short No Limits, including prizes at Annecy and the Hiroshima International Animation Festival.

Available now for iOS, Nighty Night Circus is the sequel to the most popular bedtime app of all time and 2012 Apple App of the Year, Nighty Night. More than 3 million parents bring their children to bed with Nighty Night.

Nighty Night Circus has a magical setting and a very special bedtime-atmosphere full of animations and color. Children find themselves in a circus setting with eight circus animals, which they can bring to bed by switching off the lights or blowing out candles. Each circus animal can perform several tricks to help lull children to sleep.

Wittlinger puts a lot of passion and effort in constructing little sets made of paper and props and combining them with 2D illustration and animation. Watch the charming trailer, below:
