Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves’ highly anticipated continuation of the highly influential mid-90s ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ will no longer move forward at the streamer but will be shopped to other networks.
The cuts keep coming! The latest victim of Warner Bros. Discovery’s mad inquisition is the animated series Batman: Caped Crusader, a continuation of the fan favorite Batman: The Animated Series of the mid-90s, which was slated to release on HBO Max and Cartoon Network. Thankfully, the highly anticipated show from Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams, and Matt Reeves is not completely dead, and will be shopped to other networks.
HBO Max has now cancelled a whopping six animated series, such as Little Ellen, and multiple animated films, including Merry Little Batman, The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, Bye Bye Bunny: A Looney Tunes Musical, Did I Do That to The Holidays: A Steve Urkel Story, and The Amazing World of Gumball: The Movie.
In yesterday’s fall of the axe, the studio shut down development on Driftwood, an animated feature from Cartoon Network Studios it had just greenlit three months ago.
Batman: Caped Crusader marks Timm’s return to the iconic DC character in animated episodic television, which began with the Emmy Award-winning Batman: The Animated Series, considered by many as one of the best depictions of the Dark Knight in any medium, and one of the greatest animated superhero series of all time. The all-new animated series and reimagining of the Batman mythology touts executive producers Timm, Abrams, and Reeves, and is produced by Warner Bros. Animation (WBA), Bad Robot Productions, and 6th & Idaho.
