Hannibal Takes Teeth Hold At Int. BO, Groove Dances In Sweden

While HANNIBAL took a strong hold around the international box office, Disney's THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE danced its way to number one in Sweden. In Italy, HANNIBAL reclaimed the top spot with a gross of $3.47 million, elevating its cume to $9.12 million. At #5 in Italy, CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON floated another $820,649, pushing its total to $1.97 million. In Australia, HANNIBAL retained the #1 slot, grossing $3.29 million, thus escalating its cume to $3.54 million. At #2, CAST AWAY foraged $755,639, lifting its Australian cume to $10.39 million. In fifth, CROUCHING TIGER rescued $438,113, raising its Australian total to $3.52 million. BEDAZZLED materialized in eighth, with a gross of $226,431, bringing its Australian cume to $2.46 million. Closing out the Australian top ten, ALMOST FAMOUS scored only $197,145 in its debut. In Canada, HANNIBAL hooked $2.15 million in its second week, advancing its total to $6.17 million. TRAFFIC crashed into fourth, grossing $650,964, thereby growing its Canadian cume to $6.87 million. Improving its gross by 66% in its 11th week in Canada, CROUCHING TIGER took fifth place, with a ticket-take of $631,646, increasing its cume to $6.24 million. In seventh, RECESS: SCHOOL'S OUT premiered with a gross of $503,194. Finishing off the Canadian top ten, CAST AWAY added $330,329 to its $14.58 million cume. HANNIBAL's debut in Germany and the U.K. had stiff competition from other newcomers. In Germany, with the premiere of Mel Gibson's live-action comedy WHAT WOMEN WANT taking first, HANNIBAL grossed $8.18 million in second. In third, 102 DALMATIANS collared $2.13 million, elevating its German cume to $5.23 million. CAST AWAY drifted into fourth, with a gross of $1.73 million, raising its German cume to $26.3 million. VERTICAL LIMIT climbed in at #5, grossing $702,109, thus lifting its German cume to $6.65 million. In sixth, BEDAZZLED bewitched another $527,788, growing its German cume to $6.27 million. CROUCHING TIGER descended into ninth with a ticket-take of $253,234, blooming its German cume to $2.98 million. Finishing out the German top ten, THE LEGEND OF BAGGER VANCE swung in $234,419, pushing its cume to $1.47 million. In the U.K., HANNIBAL held off the debut of THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE, placing first with a gross of $14.23 million. GROOVE finished in a distant second with a gross of $4.86 million. THE ADVENTURES OF ROCKY & BULLWINKLE picked up momentum in its second week, grossing $2.18 million (an increase of 82%), thereby raising its U.K. cume to $3.38 million. Debuting in sixth, DUNGEONS & DRAGONS collected $1.1 million. CAST AWAY sunk to seventh, with a ticket-take of $1.08 million, bringing its U.K. cume to $19.54 million. In eighth, TRAFFIC smuggled in $1.01 million, advancing its U.K. total to $7.59 million. CROUCHING TIGER tallied up $856,945 in ninth, increasing its U.K. cume to $8.75 million. Rounding out the top ten, DIGIMON ADVENTURE took home $812,563 in its U.K. premiere. In Sweden, THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE jumped from second to first with a gross of $480,106, pushing its cume to $951,692. Holding on in sixth, CAST AWAY fished $145,201, advancing its Swedish total to $2.2 million. At #8, CROUCHING TIGER hid away an additional $118,669, raising its Swedish cume to $1.08 million. BEDAZZLED possessed another $107,473 in ninth, elevating its Swedish total to $473,878. Closing out the Swedish top ten, VERTICAL LIMIT added $89,941 to its cume of $899,763. In Japan, nothing could shatter the debut of UNBREAKABLE, which grossed $8.82 million. The French thriller, THE CRIMSON RIVERS, fell to third, grossing $1.9 million, thereby floating its Japanese cume to $7.91 million. At #9, DINOSAUR walked home with another $714,556, pushing its Japanese total to $42.34 million. In South Africa, UNBREAKABLE slipped to second, with a ticket-take of $139,359, raising its total to $419,571. In seventh, VERTICAL LIMIT launched in $52,558, advancing its South African cume to $1.11 million. The reissue of THE EXORCIST scared up an additional $35,777 in eighth, levitating its South African cume to $470,745. At #9, ALMOST FAMOUS took home $16,841, increasing its three-week South African total to $98,791. In Spain, VERTICAL LIMIT climbed to the summit for a third straight week, grossing $1.24 million, and advancing its total to $4.54 million. In its fifth week in Spain, CAST AWAY washed up in second, with a gross of $997,903, lifting its Spanish cume to $7.99 million. In third, 102 DALMATIANS barked in $988,123, bringing its Spanish cume to $1.93 million. At #5, TRAFFIC smoked up $942,802, pushing its Spanish cume to $1.45 million. BAGGER VANCE danced into sixth, grossing $512,235, thereby growing its Spanish total to $1.01 million. In its Spanish debut, ALMOST FAMOUS rocked the ninth slot with a ticket-take of $341,404.
