Hand-Drawn Animation from Trunk for TWLV

Trunk recently completed a new film for newly-launched online gaming company TWLV.

Press release from Trunk:

Trunk recently completed a new film for newly launched online gaming company TWLV (pronounced twelve). The film explains how TWLV’s new on-line lottery works using a host of sociable bubble characters that re-enforce the social nature of the new lottery.

Trunk worked closely with the client to create and develop the film. Directors Layla Atkinson and Sebastian Baptista were given carte blanche, they created the concept, scripted the film and using the original artwork by Xiao Feng & Mathieu they directed and animated the entire film.

A challenge for the Trunk duo was to retain the hand drawn look of the original artwork to this end a lot of hand drawn elements were worked into the film. For example, the cute bubble characters were created in 3D using Cinema 4D then rendered out with four levels of shading. These were then traced and shaded by hand and scanned into After Effects to produce the beautiful hand drawn effect. The boiling textures throughout the video were also created by hand as were the motion-blur effects. This infused the entire video with a feeling that captured the style of the original artwork yet ensured the characters remained loose and lively. Trunk’s good friends at Fonic engineered the sound; Daniel Pemberton composed the music while the wonderfully talented Rachael Stirling provided the voice. Trunk’s very own Richard Barnett produced the film.
