Sony's HANCOCK grossed between $6.7 and $6.8 million from 3,680 theaters in Tuesday night previews, per VARIETY.
The Will Smith tentpole pic began playing at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and expanded to 3,965 runs for its official opening Wednesday.
HANCOCK's sneak preview was better than IRON MAN's $5.5M, but not as much as last summer's TRANSFORMERS, which earned $8.8M last July 4th weekend.
TRANSFORMERS ended up earning $155.4M over the holiday week and weekend.
HANCOCK is expected to gross more than $100 million over the extended holiday weekend, but box office observers are not sure how much more.
