Gunpowder & Sky Developing Animated Docuseries with T Bone Burnett

Animated documentary miniseries ‘Drawn & Recorded’ from Washington-based animator Drew Christie and animation studio Gunpowder & Sky will tell stories from American music history.

T Bone Burnett has teamed with Washington-based animator Drew Christie, music television producer Bill Flanagan and indie digital studio Gunpowder & Sky to develop a new animated documentary series, according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter.

The series, called Drawn & Recorded, will bring American icons including Elvis Presley and Louis Armstrong to life through animation. Narrated by Grammy-winning producer Burnett, the project will reportedly “tell little-told stories from American music history, the stories that musicians share after sessions, behind the bandstand and during overnight drives between gigs.”

Drawn & Recorded is being directed by Christie and produced by Gunpowder & Sky co-founder Van Toffler alongside Flanagan. The series is currently in production, but there’s no word yet on a distributor.

Here is Christie’s Psychedelic Blues, released earlier this year, in which American violinist and singer-songwriter Peter Stampfel tells the story of how the freak folk band Holy Modal Rounders first got together:
