With vfx from 4DMax, BUF, Gnomon Studios, Hydraulx, Mova, Moving Picture Company (MPC), Peanut FX, Pixel Liberation Front, Pixel Playground, Plowman Craven & Associates, Proof, Rising Sun Pictures, Sony Pictures Imageworks (SPI), Stereoscopic FX, Svengali Visual Effects, Trixter Film and i.e. Effects, the DC superhero flick didn't shine as bright as other recent superhero flicks, earning only $53.2 million.

Paramount's SUPER 8, last week's #1, fell to second, raising another $21.3 million. With vfx from Industrial Light & Magic, the old school-esque sci-fi movie has amassed $72.8 million to date.

Fox's MR. POPPER'S PENGUINS flapped into third in its premiere weekend. With vfx from Rhythm and Hues, the Jim Carrey family comedy earned $18.2 million.

Fox's X-MEN: FIRST CLASS mutated ticket sales into $11.5 million to place fourth. With vfx from 4DMax, Cinedev, Cinesite, Digital Domain, Hydraulx. Luma Pictures, Method Studios, Moving Picture Company (MPC), Persistence of Vision Ent., Proof, Rhythm and Hues, The Senate Visual Effects, The Third Floor, Trixter Film, The Visual Effects Company and Weta Digital, the superhero flick has a cume of $119.9 million.

Warner Bros.' THE HANGOVER PART II laughed up another $9.64 million. The raunchy comedy's $232.7 million now makes it the highest grossing R-rated comedy of all time.

DreamWorks Animation and Paramount's KUNG FU PANDA 2 kicked into sixth with $8.7 million. The China-set comedy has brought in $143.3 million to date.

Universal's BRIDESMAIDS partied it up in seventh, earning another $7.49 million. The comedy, which has spent six weeks in the top ten, has amassed $136.8 million thus far.

Disney's PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES dropped anchor in eighth place with an additional $6.24 million. With vfx from BlueBolt, Cinesite, Hirota Paint Industries (HPI), Hydraulx, Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), Method Studios, CIS Hollywood, Kerner Optical, Mova, Moving Picture Company (MPC), Pixel Liberation Front and Rising Sun Pictures, the fourth film in the franchise has a cume of $220.3 million.

Sony Pictures Classics' MIDNIGHT IN PARIS dropped one slot to ninth, raising another $5.24 million. Woody Allen's fantasy comedy has a cume of $21.8 million.

Dropping from seventh to tenth, Relativity Media's JUDY MOODY AND THE NOT BUMMER SUMMER rolled in an additional $2.24 million, bringing its cume to $11.2 million.
