Govindan to Head Disney TV Int’l India Marketing

Hema Govindan has been appointed head of marketing & communications for Walt Disney Television International (India), a division of The Walt Disney Company (India) Pvt. Ltd. in Mumbai. She will be responsible for putting in place an integrated marketing communications strategy and driving key research initiatives for Disneys television business in India, including its proposed pay TV channel operations as well as Disney branded programming blocks on mass entertainment channels.

With more than 17 years of experience in marketing and communications. Govindans last assignment was as marketing director, branded television, Walt Disney TV Intl Asia Pacific, based in Singapore. She was responsible for managing all the marketing, communications and strategic research initiatives of branded television throughout the Asia Pacific region (excluding Japan). These included Disney Channel feeds into 10 markets and over 35 branded blocks and Disney Clubs also across 10 markets.

Prior to joining Disney, Govindan was vp of marketing and public relations at Turner Entertainment Networks Asia with regional oversight of the Cartoon Network and Turner Classic Movies brands.

During her six-year tenure at Turner she was instrumental in driving Cartoon Networks localization drive in India. Govindan has also worked with BursonMarsteller Roger Pereira, Ogilvy & Mather and Astra Communications. Walt Disney Television International Asia Pacific (WDTVI-AP) is responsible for all of Disney Companys free and pay television activities across the Asia Pacific region (excluding Japan). These activities include branded and non-branded program distribution through Buena Vista International Television Asia Pacific (BVITV-AP), as well as production, broadcasting, development and management of Disney Channels and other media investments. Disney Branded Television oversees WDTVI-APs pay TV channels such as Disney Channel and Playhouse Disney Channel, now seen in 10 countries region-wide, as well as Disney Clubs and Disney branded programming blocks on free-to-air networks, reaching more than 380 million households in the region.
