(January 5, 2010) – Rushes have provided a powerful grade with subtle composites and visual effects for Bedlam. This dark but visually stunning promo for new Sky Living HD series Bedlam, plays on the twisted environment of a former lunatic asylum now redeveloped as an apartment block and the characters living there, proving everyone has a dark side. The campaign will start on air from 10th January.
Leading the VFX, Richard White, comments ‘Director James Debenham was a pleasure to work with. He was very clear in his direction yet still allowing room for creative input during compositing in flame.’
‘Our work included a slow-motion tracking shot in a large office; we added sheets of burning-paper, raining down in to the room from the ceiling. In other shots we built up layers of blood running down walls, splashing on the floors and changed girl’s eyes to empty black voids adding to the wonderfully dark feeling the promos already had.’
‘The production team provided some great elements to work with which made the results of the compositing process seamless.’ White also adds, ‘It has been one of the most enjoyable and exciting projects I've worked on. It’ll be great to watch the full series.’
Senior Creative at Sky Living HD, James Debenham, said: “The creative for the Bedlam promo was based on the belief that everyone in the show has a dark side. I chose to convey this in a visually stylistic abstract manner, without having the characters utter a single word.
The channel really bought into the 'dark-symbolic-beauty' concept I created, and everyone involved in the production all helped to create a visually engaging promo for Living's first ever drama. Even if I do say so myself.”
The contemporary paranormal drama has been produced by Red Production Company (Worried About the Boy, New Street Law, Casanova, Queer As Folk) as a six-part series, written and created by Neil Jones, David Allison and Chris Parker. The production will star singer and actor Will Young (Mrs Henderson Presents, Skins), Theo James (A Passionate Woman), Charlotte Salt (The Tudors) and Ashley Madekwe (Secret Diary of a Call Girl) and will air on Sky Living HD in early 2011.
