‘Funan’ Director Denis Do Chosen to Create BIAF 2019 Poster and Trailer

Bucheon International Animation Festival selects Annecy 2018 Cristal-winner and Gobelins graduate to produce signature materials for upcoming 2019 edition.

The 21st Bucheon International Animation Festival (BIAF 2019) has announced that the official poster and trailer will be created by Denis Do, director of the BIAF 2018 Jury Prize-winning feature Funan.

A graduate of the acclaimed French animation school Gobelins, Do’s feature has earned several prestigious awards, including an Annecy 2018 Cristal, and the Grand Prize and Audience Award from the 2018 Animation Is Film Festival held this past October in Los Angeles.

The semi-autobiographical Funan, Do’s first directing effort, recounts the survival and struggle of one family under the terrible regime of the Khmer Rouge, poignantly invoking the great Cambodian tragedy which claimed more than 2 million victims. It’s a powerful and beautiful story of a young mother’s fight and determination to hold on to her family during unspeakably trying times. The film features the voices of Louis Garrel and Bérénice Bejo, César-winner and Oscar-nominee for best supporting actress in The Artist.

Do will also participate in BIAF 2019 as part of the feature film competition jury. An Academy Award-qualifying festival, BIAF 2019 is scheduled to run October 18-22.
