“We’re excited about introducing a whole new range of important themes for preschoolers and parents with the third season of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, and continuing the oddness and math mayhem with an offbeat second season of Odd Squad on PBS KIDS,” said Paul Siefken, Vice President, Broadcast and Digital Media, The Fred Rogers Company. “We’re also thrilled to further the collaboration with our production partners, Out of the Blue Enterprises and 9 Story Entertainment for Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, and Sinking Ship Entertainment for Odd Squad.”
“PBS KIDS is dedicated to using the power of media to spark children’s curiosity and empower them to explore the world around them,” said Lesli Rotenberg, General Manager, Children’s Media, PBS. “We are thrilled to extend our mission with new adventures from Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood and Odd Squad, two series that help kids learn strategies for overcoming obstacles and model positive life skills such as problem solving and collaboration.”
The first original show from The Fred Rogers Company since the iconic Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, each episode of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood showcases two engaging stories starring four-year-old Daniel Tiger and his best friends, who invite viewers to come with them on fun adventures as they explore the Neighborhood of Make-Believe. The innovative use of musical strategies reinforces the theme of every show, so that preschoolers and parents will want to sing along and incorporate them into their daily lives. Angela C. Santomero of Out of the Blue Enterprises provided the creative vision for the series. Executive producers of the series are Santomero, Kevin Morrison of The Fred Rogers Company, and Vince Commisso of 9 Story Entertainment.
Emmy-nominated Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood has garnered a host of high-profile awards, including a 2015 Parent’s Choice Gold Award and 2014 Prix Jeunesse International Selection. Most recently, the show was nominated for the 2015 Television Critics’ Association Award for Outstanding Achievement in Youth Programming. The program, which airs daily on PBS KIDS, has been one of the top 5 children’s series for ages 2-5 throughout the ‘14-‘15 season.* In addition, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood garnered more than 45 million video streams in May 2015 across all PBS KIDS digital platforms, making it the #2 streaming show on PBS KIDS.
Odd Squad is a live-action series designed to help kids 5-8 build math, problem-solving and collaboration skills. The show focuses on young agents who are part of the Odd Squad, an agency whose mission is to investigate unusual occurrences. A math concept is embedded in each of their cases, as they work together to problem-solve and set things right. Odd Squad is created by Tim McKeon (Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Adventure Time, The Electric Company) and Adam Peltzman (The Electric Company, The Backyardigans, Wallykazam!) and produced by Sinking Ship Entertainment and The Fred Rogers Company. The second season of Odd Squad is funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB).
Odd Squad, which launched in fall 2014 on PBS KIDS, was recognized in 2015 with Emmy Awards in two categories, including “Outstanding Directing in a Children’s or Pre-School Children’s Series.” The show has also won a Parents’ Choice Gold Award and, in addition, Peyton Kennedy, who plays Dr. O, has received a Young Artist Award for “Best Performance in a TV Series.” Odd Squad generated more than 48 million streams in May 2015 across all PBS KIDS digital platforms, moving into the #1 spot among all PBS KIDS shows.
