Franck Dion’s ‘The Head Vanishes’ Wins Cristal Award at Annecy 2016

The Cristal for a Feature Film is awarded to French-Swiss co-production ‘My Life as a Courgette (Ma vie de Courgette),’ directed by Claude Barras.

The juries from the 40th Annecy International Animation Film Festival revealed the 2016 award winners during the Closing Ceremony on Saturday, June 18th.

Festival director Marcel Jean, alongside Song of the Sea director Tomm Moore and Tant Mieux Prod. founder Delphine Maury, bestowed the Honorary Cristal upon Les Armateurs producer Didier Brunner for all his accomplishments throughout his career.

Eighteen awards were handed out at the ceremony, including the Cristal for a short film, which went to NFB and PAPY3D co-production The Head Vanishes (Une tête disparaît) by Franck Dion. The Cristal for a Feature Film was given to French-Swiss co-production directed by Claude Barras, My Life as a Courgette (Ma vie de Courgette), which also won the Audience Award, and the Cristal for a Graduation Film was awarded to Depart at 22 by Wiep Teeuwisse at the HKU University of the Arts Utrecht in the Netherlands.

The 40th Annecy International Animation Film Festival hosted more than 9,000 badge holders, a 10.3 percent increase over last year. Next year’s edition, which will spotlight China as the guest country, will be held in Annecy, France June 12-17, 2017.
