Fox TV Opens Two Animation Arms

Fox Broadcasting Co. and 20th Century Fox TV have announced the formation of two units dedicated to animation development and production, reports VARIETY. Fox Inkubator will bring the studio together with animators and writers to develop two- to three-minute animated shorts, which could serve as the basis of a series.

20th Century Fox TV has also created a toon unit in house for the first time. Jennifer Howell, the former EVP of Matt Stone and Trey Parker's Important Films and supervising producer on South Park, will serve as the SVP of the new division. Additionally, she will shepherd the projects coming out of Fox Inkubator. Projects passed by Fox can then be pitched to other networks.

Fox Ent. president Kevin Reilly and 20th chairmen Gary Newman and Dana Walden are strongly behind the move into animation. Marci Proietto, 20th's SVP of production, who has shepherded animation at the studio since 1995, will work closely with Howell on the new projects.
