The Foundry Launches MeshFusion for MODO 701

MeshFusion dramatically cuts time and increases efficiency of 3D modeling workflows.

Software developer The Foundry has announced the launch of MeshFusion, a radical new modeling plug-in for MODO 701, which is set to revolutionize the way that designers model.

MODO is an integrated 3D modeling, animation, sculpting, effects and rendering tool used by artists and designers for asset creation. MeshFusion brings an another level of efficiency and functionality to the MODO workflow by adding the ability to interactively blend, add and subtract objects to create high quality subdivision surface (SDS) models quickly and effectively.

MeshFusion has been developed exclusively for MODO 701 by Braid Art Labs, and is based on the previous GroBoto technology.

“MeshFusion opens up a world of creative possibilities for users,” says Shane Griffith, MODO Product Marketing Manager. “It removes the challenge of complex and frustrating boolean operations and makes the process of producing high quality models consistent and accurate. Model creation that would previously take days can now be completed in just hours, with precision and control.”

As a plug-in for MODO, MeshFusion creates booleans between SDS objects and enables users to control the blending between the resulting surfaces. It features three intuitive editing modes – 3D Tree Fusion, Schematic Fusion and Fusion Strip – and can be used with deformers, as well as other MODO modeling tools. The result of the final mesh output is a single unified mesh that is ready for further editing or exporting to a 3D printer.

“This is truly going to change the way we work in a major way,” says Mike James of Mike James Media. “It blows my mind every day."

MeshFusion also features Easy ClickHaul editing which gives users instant access to Strip Controls, as well as an intelligent selection of related strips by merely clicking on the strips in the 3D Viewport. Additional custom scripts are included to help manage, manipulate and model complex boolean models.

“Every once in a while a new toolset comes along that changes everything,” comments William Vaughn, Academic Director, Digital Animation and Visual Effects School. “MeshFusion is one of those tools! Definite game changer!”

MeshFusion will be demonstrated live with MODO 701 at the SolidWorks World exhibition on 26 – 29 January in San Diego.
