The Foundry Announces KATANA/RenderMan Collaboration

The Foundry and Pixar Animation Studios announce a concerted technical collaboration to bring KATANA and RenderMan together.

Anaheim, LA --

Leading visual effects and computer graphics software developer, The Foundry will be showcasing its complete media production pipeline at SIGGRAPH this year. The company also has a number of announcements at the show that will make its software more accessible.

The Foundry’s tools are now even more accessible to users on every operating system. Following a concerted engineering effort MODO is now available on the Linux OS. This means the modeling, rendering and animation package can now be used on all three platforms. With the release of the Linux version, MODO customers can now also benefit from The Foundry’s standard maintenance offering, for those customers who require predictable budgeting.

MARI made a big splash at Apple’s WWDC conference this year with a notable nod in the keynote and a dedicated session to MARI and its use on Pixar’s Monsters University. This platform also delivered the news that the 3D digital painting tool will be coming to the Mac OS later this year. At SIGGRAPH, The Foundry have began rolling out the beta version of MARI on Mac.

Jack Greasley, MARI product Manager at The Foundry comments, "We've had a staggering response to our MARI on Mac beta and are really excited by the number of people who expressed an interest. To make sure everyone gets the best possible experience and support we will be rolling out the beta in stages. Keep an eye on your inbox and we'll be in contact soon.”

Close followers of The Foundry will have seen some buzz about a brand new addition to The Foundry’s portfolio earlier in July with the announcement of FLIX.

FLIX is a web-based visual story development tool that allows creative collaborators including directors, editors, cinematographers, storyboard and previs artists to work together in one easy-to-access place. With FLIX, users can work together to hone and perfect ideas and concepts as they develop the visual story of a film or project. Further information on FLIX and its availability can be found in the separate release.

The Foundry and Pixar Animation Studios have also announced a strategic collaboration around KATANA and RenderMan at the show. More detail on the co-development and out-of-the-box rendering functionality that will be offered to KATANA customers can be found in the separate press release.

Bill Collis, CEO of The Foundry comments, “We are incredibly proud to come to Siggraph with a portfolio of products that represent a complete pipeline for media production. Everything we do and every product we create and collaborate on is designed to benefit our users.”

The Foundry’s NUKE and research teams will be demonstrating some exciting new technology due to be integrated into a future version of NUKE at SIGGRAPH 2013.  New technology to look out for includes updates to NUKE’s Cameratracker, new MatchGrade node and text tool, all giving artists even greater control.
