FMX YouTube Channel Launches with 2024 Talks, 2025 Event Dates Set

Save the date - FMX 2025 will run May 6-9, 2025; free content from this year’s conference is now available to stream, kicking off with ‘AI is now at the Gates of VFX and Animation’ panel.

FMX 2025 is coming May 6-9, 2025, so mark your calendars and save the date. But until then, FMX 2024 lives on in the newly released free content on the FMX YouTube Channel.

FMX is sharing 2024 content - kicking off with AI!

AI is now at the Gates of VFX and Animation:

Andy Cochrane shared the stage with his speakers Elena Garcés García, Ben Hansford and Bilawal Sidhu, joined by moderator Mike Seymour. They discussed the probable impact of AI on the creative industries, the current oversupply of applications and the lack of a one-button-solution, the horror visions surrounding AI and the great opportunities it can hold for artists.

  • Cochrane is an immersive creator for interactive mediums such as virtual and augmented reality, installations, live events, large-scale domes.
  • García leads the AI & Optics team as director and senior research scientist at SEDDI. She has more than ten years of experience in computer graphics and vision, mainly focused on 3D digitization.
  • Hansford teaches Machine Learning & AI at University of Southern California (USC) - School of Cinematic Arts.
  • Sidhu is a creator, engineer, and product builder obsessed with blending reality and imagination using art and science. He has more than 1.4M+ followers across YouTube and TikTok.
  • Seymour has a Ph.D. in digital humans built on a B Sc. in Pure Maths from the University of Sydney where he also did his Masters.

Being the Change Through Mentorship (from the Managing Change track at FMX)

Curator Imke Fehrmann invited Nosipho Maketo-van den Bragt and Julie Ann Crommett on stage to discuss building strong connections, improving professional networks for support, and striving for equal opportunities and participation.

All three speakers are WIA (Women in Animation) mentors.

  • Fehrmann is RISE Visual Effects Studios Global head of Production and has been producing animation and visual effects for almost 30 years. She manages and produces innovative projects worldwide while building and leading creative teams.
  • Crommett has worked in the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) space for over fourteen years at companies like Google and Disney. As founder and CEO of Collective Moxie, she works with organizations revolutionizing their DEI strategies.
  • Nosipho is Chocolate Tribe founder and CEO as well as the founder of the FMX partner event AVIJOZI, an animation, VFX and interactive gathering taking place in Johannesburg on September 14 and 15.

Todd Sheridan Perry Discussion and In-camera effects Masterclass

At FMX, Todd Sheridan Perry discussed the practical and in-camera effects on the series I'm A Virgo. The following day he gave a Masterclass setting up a forced-perspective shoot as a hands-on demo for attendees. The process is complex and can soon be viewed on the FMX YouTube Channel.

Both sessions are part of the FMX track Then and Now, curated by VFX journalist Ian Failes, who joined Todd on stage.
