First Trailer Released for Studio Ghibli’s ‘Marnie’

Studio Ghibli releases the first trailer and a new poster for its forthcoming feature, ‘When Marnie Was There,’ from ‘The Secret World of Arriety’ director Yonebayashi Hiromasa.

Studio Ghibli has released the first trailer and a new poster for its forthcoming animated feature, When Marnie Was There, due in theaters in Japan later this month.

The film is from The Secret World of Arriety director Yonebayashi Hiromasa, and is based on the 1981 children’s book of the same name by Joan G. Robinson. In the book, an adopted girl makes a ghostly friend by the English seaside, but the film adaptation sees the location moved to Japan. Niwa Keiko (From Up on Poppy Hill) and Ando Masahi (a character designer on Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke) wrote the screenplay.

The film opens in Japan on July 19th.  No word yet on a release date for the U.S.
