First Look: DreamWorks Animation’s Newest Short, ‘Marooned’

Andy Erekson’s stylized look at a grumpy robot, C-0R13, set in the not too distant future, will debut next month during the studio’s expansive set of sneak peeks and work-in-progress presentations during the Annecy Animation Festival.

DreamWorks Animation has just released two “first look” images from their latest animated short, Marooned, the third film in the DreamWorks Shorts program launched in November 2017. According to the announcement, in a stylized look at the not too distant future, Marooned tells the story of a cantankerous and selfish robot named C-0R13. Stranded on an abandoned lunar outpost, C-0R13 longs to return to Earth. With a partially built ship and his last power source, this determined robot will stop at nothing to achieve his goal. His character and his mission will be put to the test when he learns what it truly means to be selfless

Marooned, which also was just accepted to screen at next month’s Palm Spring Shorts International Film Festival, is directed by Andy Erekson and produced by Jeff Hermann, with music by Amie Doherty. Hermann, currently producing the studio’s Boss Baby sequel, The Boss Baby 2 alongside returning director Tom McGrath, also produced the first two films in the shorts program, Bird Karma and Bilby, as well as co-produced the animated comedy hit, Kung Fu Panda 3.  The studio also announced an addition to their Annecy program: director Walt Dohrn will present first looks of footage from his upcoming feature, Trolls World Tour.
