Final FMX 2022 Program Additions Update

With the conference starting next Tuesday, a final selection of new program highlights includes a showcase of an LED Wall and Unreal Engine in a virtual production stage, ‘Real vs. Unreal’ real-time graphics panel, and The World to Come - A look ahead at Metaverse.’

FMX 2022 is still announcing new program highlights for next week’s upcoming conference, running onsite May 3-5 and online May 6. Check out the full program on the FMX website.

Here is a selection of the latest program additions (probably AWN's last update for the 2022 event) too numerous to list in total:

Virtual Production Stage coming to FMX 2022:

ARRI Solutions, disguise, Neumann&Müller, ROE Visual, TrackMen and Unreal Engine are bringing a state-of-the-art LED Wall to the conference, showcasing an Unreal scene for visitors who will get a firsthand view of what it's like to shoot on a VP Stage.

FMX program chair HaZ Dulull will host a daily fireside chat with fellow industry experts (Paul Debevec -Netflix, Shelley Smith - DNEG Animation, and Victor Perez) on the VP Stage discussing their experiences with virtual production.

Panel Discussion: Real Vs. Unreal:

When real-time graphics look as realistic as they do in Epic Games’ The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience, what implications does that have on our industry and on our daily lives? Panelists will look at how the lines are blurring between realties — the real world and the virtual world — and what role real-time technologies will play in the creation of the metaverse. Panelists include:

An Epic Animation Journey with William Joyce & DNEG Animation:

Mr. Spam Gets a New Hat is a short film collaboration between DNEG Animation and Academy Award-winning director, William Joyce. As the first film at DNEG Animation to utilize real-time technology, it required creative problem solving from both the production, the technology, and the leadership.

DNEG Animation panelists will discuss their creative journey and the impact using Unreal Engine had on the production schedule. They will share a live demo that will mimic what a review with the director was like (and give a sneak peek at the tools used). Panelists include:

The World to Come - A look ahead at Metaverse experiences:

A discussion and inspiration for creators and thought leaders on what the Metaverse experience of the future could look like, and what we need to do today in order to be ready for this and drive innovation forward.

Swing Behind-the-Scenes of Spider-Man: No Way Home:

A behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the Academy Award-nominated film, Spider-Man: No Way Home. This presentation will explore the artistic and technological challenges and innovations developed to bring back the iconic heroes and villains for the 2021 film.

Creature Ideation & Realization for the World of Witcher Season 2:

In this presentation Madeleine Spencer will present key elements in the realization of two creatures from the series, The Basilisk and the Chernobog. Focusing on informative case studies from Cinesite's concept-driven asset pipeline, Madeleine will break down how the artists make this happen.
