Fede Alvarez to Deliver Keynote at VIEW 2024

Award-winning ‘Alien: Romulus’ director will present live at Italy’s premier animation and VFX event running October 14-19 in the beautiful baroque city of Turin.

VIEW Conference 2024, Italy’s premier animation and visual effects event, has announced Award-winning Alien: Romulus director Fede Alvarez will present a keynote live at the event’s 25th edition, running in person October 14 - 19 in Turin, Italy.

Alien: Romulus, directed by Alvarez and produced by Ridley Scott, continues the Alien franchise’s success at terrifying audiences worldwide. The sci-fi/horror-thriller takes the franchise back to its roots, following a group of young space colonizers who, while scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe. The film stars Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu.

The screenplay, written by Alvarez with frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues, is based on characters created by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett. The movie is produced by Scott, who directed the original Alien and produced and directed Prometheus and Alien: Covenant.  Michael Pruss and Walter Hill, with Alvarez, Elizabeth Cantillon, Brent O’Connor, and Tom Moran, serve as executive producers.

Alvarez gained international recognition for his directorial debut, the 2013 Evil Dead remake, which he also wrote. Following the success of his first film, he wrote, directed, and produced the hit genre film Don’t Breathe which grossed over $157 million globally. Alvarez also produced and wrote Don’t Breathe 2, later producing and writing 2022’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre. He created, directed, and wrote the Apple TV+ series Calls, an English adaptation of the French series of the same name.

Alien: Romulus’ Oscar-nominated creature FX designer Alec Gillis will also attend VIEW, presenting “Practical Character Effects and Why They Still Matter.” Gillus will discuss his work on the movie as well as share stories from his decades-long career working movies including Aliens, Predator, Tremors, Starship Troopers, and Death Becomes Her.
