Exorcist Repossess #2 At The US Box Office

With Denzel Washingtons football flick, REMEMBER THE TITANS, firmly taking the top spot, the reissue of THE EXORCIST repossessed second place. The classic horror flick, with digital clean-up by Pacific Title Digital, scared up another US$7.21 million, levitating its cume to $17.67 million. Taking third for the second straight week was ALMOST FAMOUS, with a gross of $5.57 million. The rock n roll romp, with primary visual effects by Manex and Pacific Title Digital, raised its cume to $17.83 million. Plummeting from first to fourth, URBAN LEGENDS: FINAL CUT scrounged up $4.41 million. The scare fest sequel, with primary visual effects by Pacific Title Digital, has raked in an estimated $14.68 million thus far. Sinking a spot to settle in ninth, WHAT LIES BENEATH took home an additional $1.64 million. The specter spectacle, with primary visual effects by Sony Pictures Imageworks, has drummed up $150.6 million so far. After early reports had it at #10, SPACE COWBOYS lassoed 11th place, grossing another $1.4 million. The space saga, with primary visual effects by ILM, has rounded up $86.98 million to date. THE CELL placed 13th, with a gross of $1.04 million. The serial killer thriller, with primary visual effects by Toybox, has a disappointing cume of $59.08 million. In 14th place, SCARY MOVIE summoned another $816,607. The raunchy roast, with primary visual effects by Centropolis Effects, has a cume of $154.9 million. Landing in the 17th slot, NUTTY PROFESSOR II: THE KLUMPS ate up an additional $678,165. The Eddie Murphy vehicle, with primary visual effects by Double Negative Ltd., has accumulated $120.8 million. Other animated and special effects laden films finishing in the top fifty were: GONE IN 60 SECONDS at #24, with a gross of $385,595 and a cume of $100.1 million; THE PERFECT STORM at #25, with a gross of $372,285 and a cume of $180.6 million; X-MEN at #27, with a gross of $354,049 and a cume of $155.7 million; HIGHLANDER: ENDGAME at #28, with a gross of $285,185 and a cume of $12.47 million; GLADIATOR at #29, with a gross of $273,392 and a cume of $186.1 million; THE PATRIOT at #31, with a gross of $210,110 and a cume of $113.1 million; CHICKEN RUN at #32, with a gross of $200,996 and a cume of $105.5 million; HOLLOW MAN at #36, with a gross of $176,389 and a cume of $72.71 million; BLESS THE CHILD at #38, with a gross of $144,371 and a cume of $28.84 million; MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 2 at #40, with a gross of $112,807 and a cume of $215.3 million; T-REX: BACK TO THE CRETACEOUS at #45, with a gross of $84,103 and a cume of $34.6 million; and SHAFT at #50, with a gross of $70,429 and a cume of $70.23 million.
