Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions and FilmDistrict have come together with Ghost House Pictures on the EVIL DEAD remake, reports Variety. Sony will distribute the film worldwide except in the U.K. and France.
Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell are producing with Fede Alvarez directing. Alvarez also co-wrote the script with Rodo Sayagues, which has a rewrite from Diablo Cody. The story follows five friends who discover the Book of the Dead at a cabin in the woods and unleashed hell on Earth.
FilmDistrict's Lia Buman and Ghost House's Nicole Brown and J.R. Young are shepherding the project. Ghost House's Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane are the exec producers.
