Essential Media Announces MIP Slate

Essential Media and Entertainment announces their MIP Slate which includes Bubble Bath Bay, My 24, and Alien TV.

Los Angeles, CA --

Essential Media and Entertainment is bringing a strong slate of high quality children’s programming featuring pre-school animation, kids comedy and factual genres at MIPJR/MIPCOM announced by its Head of Children’s Entertainment, Carmel Travers.

Essential Media and Entertainment is a producer of Rake in the US for Fox, starring Greg Kinnear (with Fedora Entertainment and Sony Television) and the upcoming Disney feature, Saving Mr. Banks (with Ruby Films), starring Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson.

Essential’s children’s division has partnered with some of the strongest producers, networks and studios as part of its mission to become a leading independent provider of quality kids and family content across all media.

The pre-school series (52 x 11’), Bubble Bath Bay tells the story of Sydney the Sailboat and his huge family of nautical friends. The fast-paced and full of adventure animated series is produced by Essential for ABC Australia in partnership with Telegael Ireland, Ideate Media, Malaysia (a joint venture between Khazanah Nasional and Astro Overseas), and Lemon Sky Animation and Games Studio, Malaysia. International distribution is handled by Bejuba! Entertainment.

"We were enamored with a series that took place on the water with a sailboat as the main hero.  The charm and attention paid to the detail is sure to make this series a resounding success.   We love that the partners are global, making the series European content as well as Australian and Asian,” said President of Bejuba! Entertainment, Tatiana Kober.

Created by Art Director, Ian Brown, whom Travers described as “one of the great animation talents in Australia,” Alien TV is a hilarious, irreverent animated series based on an Alien news crew's weird and wacky misinterpretation of life on Earth. The 26 half-hour series is a co-venture between Essential Media and Entertainment and eOne Family.

“A high end CGI artist and Art Director, Ian's work has screened three times in Academy Award nominated films and has won more than 70 international awards across visual effects, animation and design.  We're very fortunate in being able to bring Ian's talents into Essential and to work together with the terrific team at eOne.”

Minding Millie In addition to launching these series at the market, Essential will introduce to buyers a new project based on a character created by young Australian animation artist, Beini Huang.  “Beini has enormous talent, with a fresh eye and a very funny take on what it's like to observe the world through the eyes of two year old, Millie, her grandfather and his enormous dog, Bowie,” commented Travers.

In production for ABC Australia in partnership with Australian Children’s Television Foundation is My 24 (13-part factual series), which is based on an original format developed by Essential Media and award-winning producer Penny Robins.  My 24 tells the true stories of a diverse group of young people whose lives were all changed irrevocably within a 24 hour period. ACTF will be distributing.

"Essential has a long tradition in quality factual content.  Translating this genre to high quality factual content for young viewers is a natural fit for Essential”, said Travers.
