eOne Announces Second Series of ‘PJ Masks’

First season of hit preschool series from Entertainment One continues to roll out across Disney Junior channels worldwide.

LONDON -- Entertainment One (eOne), announced that a second series of its new preschool animated superhero TV show, PJ Masks, has been greenlit for production and is set for delivery from autumn 2018. The new 52 x 11min episodes, produced by eOne and Frog Box, in collaboration with broadcasters Disney Junior and France 5, will bring fresh adventures and challenges for our brave heroes Catboy, Owlette and Gekko as they save the day from the show’s nighttime villains Luna Girl, Romeo and Night Ninja.

Olivier Dumont, Managing Director of eOne Family commented, “Since PJ Masks launched on Disney Junior and France 5 we’ve been delighted by both the fans’ instant admiration for the series and also the broadcasters’ complete commitment to the show. Commencing production on a second series whilst PJ Masks is still launching around the world speaks to its potential to be the next big preschool hit and we look forward to introducing new narratives and characters that will excite the show’s growing fanbase around the world.”

Hélène Etzi, Senior Vice President and General Manager Disney Channels EMEA & France, added, “Disney Junior is home to loveable characters and stories full of adventure, fun and magic. We knew from the first moment we saw Romuald’s books about superheroes in pajamas that this idea was a natural fit for us. We were delighted to be part of the creative development journey for this pre-school show with real heart and relatable themes and look forward to extending our partnership with eOne to bring back Catboy, Owlette and Gekko for more adventures in 2018.”

PJ Masks won over young audiences and their families in the U.S. where the show airs daily on Disney Junior, the #1 preschool network for the past three years. In Q1 2016, the CGI animated show reached 8 million kids aged 2-5, including 4 million boys ages 2-5. PJ Masks launched on-air in a number of international territories in 2016 where it also achieved exceptional ratings in countries including the UK, France, Italy, Spain and Australia. The first series will continue to rollout on Disney Junior channels around the world throughout 2016 and 2017.

eOne, the global entertainment company behind preschool sensation Peppa Pig, is now readying a consumer product launch for the brand which is poised to hit retail in the US from fall 2016. Leading children’s toy manufacturer, Just Play, LLC, is signed as global master toy partner and in response to growing consumer demand from families across the U.S., the firm will debut an extensive line of PJ Masks toys and playthings including action figures, playsets, vehicles and plush in addition to dress-up and role-play. These toys will roll out to international territories in 2017. Simon and Schuster has been signed for publishing in North America and additional partners are being signed in multiple territories for launch in 2017.

To engage the brand’s growing international fanbase, eOne has a comprehensive marketing strategy that will see the launch in 2016 of new music videos and digital content such as apps and an interactive PJ Masks website that features a raft of activities for both kids and parents.

PJ Masks is based on French author Romuald Racioppo’s popular picture book series Les Pyjamasques. By day, 6-year-olds Connor, Amaya and Greg go to school like kids everywhere. But when they put on their pajamas and activate their animal amulets, the crime-fighters magically transform into their dynamic superhero alter egos and become the PJ Masks: Catboy, super-fast and agile; Gekko, super strong and able to scale walls; and Owlette, with the power to fly and see great distances. In each episode, the three heroes embark on exciting adventures and work together to solve mysteries and learn valuable lessons along the way.
