Entertainment Rights Picks Up More Transformers Rights

Leading U.K. media group Entertainment Rights Plc ("ER") has signed the distribution rights for Latin America for the new TRANSFORMERS ANIMATED series (26x22) plus a 70-minute special episode. The agreement builds on ER's announcement earlier this year for securing worldwide television distribution rights (excluding North America) and covers television distribution across both free and pay TV platforms.

TRANSFORMERS ANIMATED, the next generation of the saga of the struggle between the Autobots and the Decepticons, is being developed by L.A.-based Cartoon Network Studios. Sam Register is exec ]producer, joined by supervising director Matt Youngberg, head writer Marty Isenberg, and lead designer Derrick Wyatt.

The show's 2-D style will present a new twist on the original "Generation 1" animated series that launched the TRANSFORMERS phenomenon in 1984. Developed for a new generation of TRANSFORMERS fans, the series will also introduce new characters alongside legendary favorites such as OPTIMUS PRIME and MEGATRON. The show debuts in early 2008 in the U.S.
