The animated film, inspired by inter-generational tales and decades-old sketches, tells a true story via symbolic fiction and intricate crafting of a young girl struggling to understand her destiny - slated for release in 2023.
E.D. Films has released the first official trailer of its upcoming animated film Retour a Hairy Hill, inspired by art director Daniel Gies' personal history. The film began as a collection of inter-generational tales remembered from childhood and sketches created over a decade ago. It ultimately evolved into the true story of GIies' Franco-Albertan great-grandmother, his Métis rodeo star great-grandfather, and their fragile family’s breaking point.
The story is brimming with symbolic fiction and animated with an in-house hybrid paper, 2D, 3D, and Game Engine (with the studio’s Scene Track plug-in) pipeline, illustrative animation experience, and input from various artists. In the tradition of indigenous oral storytelling, the movie tells the fantastical fable of a young girl struggling to understand her destiny as her mother, father, and siblings gradually succumb to the northern wilderness she calls home.
Enjoy the melodic and intricately crafted trailer to peek at what’s to come - slated for release in 2023.
