Eagle Eye'ing A Box Office Win

Shia LaBeouf-led actioner EAGLE EYE won its opening weekend (ending September 28), taking in $29.15 million for Paramount and DreamWorks. The film's vfx were by Sony Pictures Imageworks, The Third Floor and Kerner Optical. EAGLE EYE: The IMAX Experience grossed approximately $1.6 million of the take, marking IMAX's largest September or October opening for a Hollywood release.

Romance novelist Nicholas Sparks adaptation NIGHTS IN RODANTHE (Warner Bros.) opened a strong number two with $13.42M.

Third place went to holdover LAKEVIEW TERRACE (Screen Gems), last week's winner, with $6.97M in its second week and a tally of $25.67M.

Christian-themed FIREPROOF (Samuel Goldwyn/IDP) opened surprisingly in fourth place for just 839 theaters for a total of $6.805M.

Focus Features' BURN AFTER READING (vfx by Big Film Design and Brainstorm Digital) fell to fifth place with $6.169M and $45.57M in three weeks in release.

Animated IGOR (MGM/Weinstein Co.) came in sixth place with $5.38M and a gross of $14.22M in two weeks.

Seventh place went to comedy MY BEST FRIEND'S GIRL with $3.88M and $14.6M in two weeks.

Overture Films' RIGHTEOUS KILL placed eighth $3.803M and a three-week gross of $34.805M.

Spike Lee war film MIRACLE AT ST. ANNA (Buena Vista, vfx by ILM) opened low in ninth place with $3.48M.

TYLER PERRY'S THE FAMILY THAT PREYS (Lionsgate) placed 10th with $3.13M and a three-week gross of $32.76M.

And in animation, FLY ME TO THE MOON (Summit Ent.) earned $502,645 for a seven-week cume of $11.637M. Disney-Pixar's WALL-E made $244,023 and has made more than $220M in 14 weeks. DreamWorks Animation's KUNG FU PANDA got $206,782 and has a 17-week cume of more than $215M. STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS (Warner Bros.) earned $187,722 and a seven-week total of $34.74M. SPACE CHIMPS (Fox) earned another $165,448 and has almost $30M in 11 weeks.
