The fifth installment of the long-running franchise, to be directed by 'Kon-Tiki's Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, will arrive in theaters on July 7, 2017.
Walt Disney Pictures has announced that Pirates of the Caribbean 5 will arrive in theaters on July 7, 2017. The movie, previously said to be subtitled of Dead Men Tell No Tales, is the first feature to land on that date.
Catch Me If You Can scribe Jeff Nathanson has written the screenplay for the fifth installment, which will be directed by Kon-Tiki's Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg. Pirates of the Caribbean 5 will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.
Last summer, shortly after The Lone Ranger had put a dent in Disney’s bottom line, the project was delayed due to budgetary concerns and an unfinished script. Now it appears that Disney has set a new course for 2017.
Launched in 2003 with The Curse of the Black Pearl, the franchise has featured Johnny Depp in the role of Captain Jack Sparrow and Geoffrey Rush as Captain Barbossa. The most recent adventure, On Stranger Tides, also starred Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane and Sam Claflin and turned out more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office.
The Pirates of the Caribbean films have earned over $3.7 billion at the worldwide box office.
