Disney is taking Disney Infinity on the road, according to a report by Variety, launching two mobile apps for the forthcoming console game that incorporates many of the company’s most iconic characters.

Through Disney Infinity: Toy Box, players can build new worlds, interact with characters and transfer their creations to the main console game. Worlds they build in the console can also be transferred to the iPad edition.

Disney is initially offering up more than 60 terrains, tracks and decorations that can be manipulated on the iPad screen to build new worlds. As new items are unlocked on the console version of the game, they will also become available on the iPad apps. Items that gamers buy separately will also be available, while items can also be purchased in the apps for $0.99. Mr. Incredible is offered for free.

In Disney Infinity: Action, players can bring the game to life by creating their own movies starring themselves alongside the animated characters using a movie maker feature. Available Aug. 15 from iTunes and the Windows Store and eventually the Google Play Store, more than 30 different animations and dozens of props, including Buzz Lightyear’s jet pack, will be available. Mr. Incredible, Sulley and Jack Sparrow will also be available as characters to cast in the videos.

Disney will enable the videos to be posted on Facebook or YouTube or emailed as a way to promote the game and its players’ creations.

Disney Infinity launches Aug. 18, on the Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii U.

To play Infinity, gamers need to purchase a $75 starter pack that comes with three figures and a “reader” pad. When the toys are placed on the reader, the game recognizes the figures and inserts them into one of two game modes on the TV screen — a story-based campaign and a toy-box mode in which anything goes and a mashup of all things Disney can take place. Additional discs, which are also placed on the reader, determine various powers of the characters and add upgrades or new locations, props and settings. The game’s split-screen modes enable multiple people to play together at the same time.

At D23 Expo, Disney Interactive also announced a new group of characters it will begin releasing in October. They include Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey: Tangled’s Rapunzel, the first Disney Princess to be introduced into the Disney Infinity line-up; and characters from Wreck-It Ralph, Frozen, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Phineas and Ferb.

It will also offer up a Toy Story in Space Play Set, featuring Buzz, Jessie and Woody, as the sixth play set for Disney Infinity, when it’s released in October. The first set of characters available upon launch include those from Monsters University, The Incredibles, Cars, Pirates of the Caribbean and The Lone Ranger.
