Disney and Pixar Drop ‘Elemental’ Trailer and Character Posters

Ronnie del Carmen, Shila Ommi, Wendi McLendon-Covey, and Catherine O’Hara join the cast of the studios’ next animated feature, which follows Ember, a fiery young woman, and Wade, a fun go-with-the-flow guy, who together define the notion that ‘opposites react;’ the movie hits theaters June 16 along with Bob Peterson’s all-new short, ‘Carl’s Date.’

Disney and Pixar have shared a new trailer and character posters for their upcoming 3DCG animated feature Elemental. The studios also revealed that Ronnie del Carmen, Shila Ommi, Wendi McLendon-Covey, and Catherine O’Hara have joined the cast. Helmed by Peter Sohn (The Good Dinosaur, Partly Cloudy short) and produced by Denise Ream (The Good Dinosaur, Cars 2), the movie comes to theaters this coming June 16.

Set in Element City, the story introduces Ember, a tough, quick-witted, and fiery young woman whose friendship with a fun, sappy, go-with-the-flow guy named Wade challenges her beliefs about the world they live in. The pair are about to discover something elemental: how much they actually have in common. And sometimes, opposites “react!”

Inspired by some of the world’s big cities, Elemental City embraces theorized contributions from each elemental community, from giant pine-tree-like buildings and waterfall skyscrapers to a tornado-shaped arena called Cyclone Stadium.

Joining the previously announced voice cast, including Leah Lewis and Mamoudou Athie as Ember and Wade, respectively, are Ronnie del Carmen as Ember’s soon-to-be-retired dad, Bernie; Shila Ommi as Ember’s love-seeking mom, Cinder; Wendi McLendon-Covey as Wade’s stormy and Air-Ball-loving boss, Gale; Catherine O’Hara as Wade’s welcoming mom, Brook; Mason Wertheimer as Ember’s admiring earth neighbor, Clod; and Joe Pera as an overgrown city bureaucrat, Fern.

Directed by Sohn, produced by Ream, and executive produced by Pete Docter, Elemental features a screenplay by John Hoberg & Kat Likkel, and Brenda Hsueh with a story by Sohn, Hoberg & Likkel, and Hsueh. The film’s original score was composed and conducted by Thomas Newman.

The trailer showcases each element—air, earth, water, and fire—and what sets them apart.

This year, Pixar Animation Studios resumes the moviegoing tradition of pairing their feature films with an animated short with the release of Carl’s Date ahead of Elemental screenings. The film catches up with Carl Fredricksen (voiced by the late Ed Asner) and his lovable talking dog, Dug (voice of Bob Peterson), who were introduced in Pixar’s Oscar-winning feature Up.

Written and directed by Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award winner Bob Peterson and produced by Kim Collins, Carl’s Date finds Carl reluctantly agreeing to go on a date with a lady friend—but admittedly with no idea how dating works these days. His helpful friend and companion, Dug, steps in to calm Carl’s pre-date jitters and offer some tried-and-true tips for making friends—if you’re a dog.
