In what is now a franchise tradition, the ‘Joker’ director once again shared new images of Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker and Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn on Valentine’s Day, as a ghoulish gift to fans; the film dances into theaters October 4.
Thanks Saint Valentine! In honor of the romantic holiday, director Todd Phillips took to Instagram to share new images from Joker: Folie à Deux.
Joker: Folie à Deux takes place in the DC Elseworlds franchise alongside Matt Reeves’ The Batman, but not as part of the new official DCU timeline currently in development from James Gunn and Peter Safran. The gritty ’80s film centers on the romantic and musical relationship between Phoenix’s Joker and Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn, and also features the talents of Zazie Beetz as Sophie Dumond, Jacob Lofland, Brendan Gleeson, Harry Lawtey, and Catherine Keener.
Last year, sly set photos revealed the makeup and costuming for Lady Gaga’s upcoming portrayal of Harley Quinn in the Joker sequel. The striking red and diamond-patterned outfit Gaga dons as she walks through a protesting crowd was created by Oscar-nominated Arianne Phillips. The first glimpse of Gaga as the clownish character was shared last Valentine’s Day as a ghoulishly romantic gift to fans. It’s the holiday that keeps on giving!
Returning for the mad sequel is director Phillips, who will again pen the script alongside Scott Silver. Visual effects on Joker were produced by Scanline VFX and Shade VFX for production VFX supervisor Edwin Rivera. Scanline returns to craft the VFX under the guidance of visual effects supervisor Ivan Moran.
