New Line Cinema is in final talks with Len Wiseman (LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD) to direct its remake of John Carpenter's cult classic ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, reports the trades. 300 star Gerard Butler has already signed on as the new Snake Plissken. Neal Moritz is the producer.
Ken Nolan (BLACK HAWK DOWN) is adapting the script, which sees convict/ war hero Plissken sent into a futuristic Manhattan, which has been transformed into a maximum-security prison, to save the U.S. President after Air Force One is shot down by the inmates.
Canal Plus holds the remake rights to the film. Canal's Ron Halpern and Frederic Sichler will exec producer along with Original's Ori Marmur and Carpenter.
