Press Release from DHX Media

Toronto, London. 21 September 2010. DHX Media has scored a third season commission its hit animated preschool show Animal Mechanicals from the CBC in Canada, bringing the total number of episodes to 73 x 11’.

Charles Bishop, President, DHX Media said: “Animal Mechanicals has been  a huge hit with kids audiences so we’re looking forward to creating super new transformational  adventures for them to enjoy. Internationally the series is establishing a presence across television and L&M that will be boosted by its launch on the Hub later this year.”

Kim Wilson, Creative Head, Children’s Programming at CBC said: "Animal Mechanicals is a consistent top performer for us. Kids love it, and we love that it is such an empowering show for young children. We're thrilled to be able to add some new episodes to the line-up."

Animal Mechanicals is an action adventure series for preschoolers that combines fantastical worlds, mythical animals and cool quests. And the best thing of all, they transform!  In each episode, Rex, Unicorn, Komodo, Sasquatch and Mouse, a powerful team of transforming superheroes set off from Tiger Base, their island-in-the-sky home, for a mission. Their missions always take them to a new floating island that is like a fantastic theme park, with unique landscapes and features. Here, the Animal Mechanicals encounter fun and fantastic challenges. They must overcome these challenges by transforming into “super” versions of themselves and they get to choose and use their special abilities to help them complete their mission.

Originally commissioned by CBC in Canada, where it is one of the highest-rating preschool shows, Animal Mechanicals is produced and distributed by DHX Media which also handles licensing and merchandising.

This autumn Animal Mechanicals is launching on US television screens with new Hasbro/Discovery Communications network ‘The Hub’. It also airs around the globe on channels including the Disney Channels in the UK and Asia; Radio-Canada, Discovery Latin America, Romania’s HOP, EBS in Korea; Al-Jazeera Children Channel and Prava I Prevodi, who acquired the title for Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro.

In licensing deals Producciones Publiexpress have been signed up for colouring and activity books in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay and DHX Media will be looking to sign new licensees at BLE next month.
