SPEED director Jan de Bont and actress Zhang Ziyi are teaming for an English-language version of the MULAN legend, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
SPEED director Jan de Bont and actress Zhang Ziyi are teaming for an English-language version of the MULAN legend, according to The Hollywood Reporter. John Blickstead has penned the script following Hua Mulan, a young woman who poses as a man to join the army.
Movie Plus Productions, Global Film Finance, Bona International Film Group and SIMF Pictures are co-producing. Zhang, Ling Lucas, Beaver Kwei, Mark Phillips, Ron Lynch, Steve Waterman and Christopher Brough are serving as producers. Paul Edwards, Jeffrey Chan, Fred Wang and Jeff Kranzdorf are exec producing.
William Morris Endeavor holds the North American rights. Polybona will release in China with Arclight Films International’s Easternlight Films repping elsewhere.
Production will start in Shanghai on Sept. 15.
