DC Studios Reveals Release Date for ‘The Batman – Part II’

The sequel to Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ will hit theaters October 3, 2025 under the DC Elseworlds banner, separate from the new DC Universe core continuity just revealed by James Gunn and Peter Safran.

The entire “Chapter 1” DC Universe slate wasn’t the only big reveal on Monday. In addition to the whopping 10 new film and series announcement, Co-Chairmen and CEOs of DC Studios Peter Safran and James Gunn have revealed The Batman – Part II will swoop into theaters October 3, 2025.

With an 87% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, The Batman starring Robert Pattinson is an undoubtable fan favorite. However, Pattison will not portray the official Bruce Wayne / Dark Knight in the new DC Universe core continuity. Gunn explains that the upcoming The Brave and the Bold film, based on Grant Morrison's comic run, will introduce the DCU Batman, who will not be played by Pattinson… and will also not be played by Ben Affleck.

Gunn describes the upcoming sequel as a DC Elseworlds project that will still have his full support along with Safran and the DC team’s. The franchise will instead be positioned as an entire separate crime saga that also includes the Penguin TV series. Hmmm.

Matt Reeves will return to direct The Batman – Part II, with Pattinson reprising his role as the caped crusader. While unconfirmed, it is also likely Colin Farrell will return as The Penguin, as he plays the character in the HBO Max Penguin series. No plot details are currently known.
