Alias announced that The DAVE School (The Digital Animation and Visual Effects School) has added a graduate level Maya software training course to its curriculum. The course, which focuses on art creation, is offered free to all graduates of The DAVE School.
The computer graphics and visual effects business is growing enormously and we have identified Maya as a tool of choice for that industry, says Jeff Scheetz, founder/director of The DAVE School. Knowing Maya is a definite advantage for our graduates to access the enormous employment opportunities within the games, film and broadcast sectors.
The Maya Foundations program is an added benefit for DAVE School graduates and runs for three months. The Maya software classes run throughout the year and are an intensive program involving 120 hours of classroom instruction and unlimited lab time to complete the assignments.
First, DAVE School covers the basics of Maya: modeling methods, texturing, rigging and animation, lighting, shadows and rendering, as well as workflow.
After the basics are understood, an assignment is begun which sees each student design, present, build, texture and animate their own vehicle or weapon for game making. The students are then paired up to model each others designs. Finally, they cover employment strategies the demo reel, interviewing and work experience.
