Dark Knight, WALL-E are the People's Choice

THE DARK KNIGHT won for Favorite Movie and WALL-E for Favorite Family Movie at Wednesday's 35th Annual People's Choice Awards, held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

THE DARK KNIGHT beat out INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL, with four other wins, including Favorite Cast, Superhero, Action Movie and On-Screen Matchup between Christian Bale as Batman and the late Heath Ledger as the Joker. In accepting, Bale said, "On behalf of all of the cast from the movie, thank you very much to the fans. Here's to Heath." (per VARIETY).

KUNG FU PANDA and THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: PRINCE CASPIAN were also nominated for Favorite Family Movie.

THE SIMPSONS beat out FAMILY GUY and SOUTH PARK for a win in the Favorite Animated Comedy category. HEROES won Favorite Sci Fi/Fantasy Show, besting SUPERNATURAL and TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES.

Nominees for the People's Choice Awards were determined using an E-Poll of the People's Choice Online Community to get a nationally-represented sample of respondents age 13 and older. For each category, the respondents were provided with a set of candidates determined by national ratings averages, box-office grosses and music sales. The respondents then chose their favorites in Television, Movies and Music. They also had the option to write in their favorites where not included among the provided candidates. The top three selections in each category became the final nominees, and the public voted between November 10 and December 7, 2008 at www.pcaVOTE.com.
