London, 14 March 2011. Leading children’s and family entertainment producer and rights management company Coolabi, and Hallmark, the UK’s leading greetings card brand, have signed a major multi-year deal for the iconic humour brand, Purple Ronnie.

This four-year extension to the UK programme reinforces how hugely popular Purple Ronnie is within the brand’s major categories of greetings cards, gift presentation and the more recent personalised card service available from www.Hallmark.co.uk. Furthermore, the partnership represents the continued commitment by both Coolabi and Hallmark to maintaining the brand’s enormous success at retail.

The partnership is a true testament to just how much the nation adores the Purple Ronnie brand, and its leading position as the social expression brand of choice is something that has remained strong since Purple Ronnie was first introduced more than 20 years ago. Since becoming the greetings card licensee in 2004, Hallmark has sold more than 50 million Purple Ronnie cards and is currently selling in excess of seven million annually.

The Purple Ronnie brand’s enduring status is further highlighted by Coolabi’s recent launch of the new Facebook app Purple Ronnie’s Express Yourself which currently has attracted in excess of 25,000 active users on Facebook in just four weeks, and is growing by the day.

Anna Hewitt, Head of Licensing at Coolabi, says: “People of all ages have been expressing themselves with Purple Ronnie for more than 20 years, and the brand continues to win fans with its witty poems and illustrations. Hallmark has played an enormous part in driving the brand’s popularity through the UK greetings cards market over recent years, and they continue to prove the ideal partner for Purple Ronnie.”

Melanie Beer, Licensing Director at Hallmark, adds: “We’re delighted to have secured an extension for this popular and witty card range, and will continue to work closely with Coolabi to ensure all seasons and occasions are maximised”.
