Comedy Central’s ‘Fairview’ Gets Trailer and Release Date

The eight-episode adult animation series is executive produced by Stephen Colbert, and skewers small-town Americana à la ‘South Park.’

ViacomCBS is upping its adult animation game with the arrival of Fairview, a new original series airing next month on Comedy Central.

Fairview is executive produced by Stephen Colbert, as well as the team behind Emmy-nominated Paramount+ series Tooning Out the News and Showtime’s Our Cartoon President. The eight-episode show will first air on Comedy Central February 9, following the premiere of South Park’s forthcoming 25th season.

The addition of Fairview is part and parcel of the network’s broader pivot to adult animation programming. Over the past two years, Comedy Central has invested in building up a slate of original content in the subgenre that could complement South Park. In 2020, it ordered the first eight episodes of Fairview, along with the Daria spinoff series Jodie and a reboot of Beavis and Butt-Head. And last September, it announced an animated feature, Washingtonia, about an ascendant politician and his bumbling staff.

Featuring a cast of characters described as “Natty Light-chugging, grocery store parking lot-fighting, [and] public urinating,” Fairview will also comment on national politics, by following the exploits of town mayor Kelly Sampson. And from the looks of the show’s official trailer, just launched today, it clearly owes a debt to South Park’s skewering of small-town Americana.

Fairview stars voice actors Marina Cockenberg, James Austin Johnson, Aparna Nancherla, Jeremy Levick, Blair Socci, Graham Techler, Atsuko Okatsuka, Otter Lee, Carl Foreman Jr, Jack Bensinger, Lisa Gilroy, and Joey Romaine.

RJ Fried created the show, and serves as its executive producer with Colbert, Chris Licht, Tim Luecke, Kim Gamble, Mike Leech and Zach Smilovitz. Grant Gish is also an executive producer, with co-executive producer Sachi Ezura and supervising producer Michael Stanger of MTV Entertainment Group.
