Comedy Central Set to Take Over San Diego Comic-Con

‘South Park 20 Experience’ will allow fans to explore and insert themselves into 20 iconic and fan-favorite scenes; Ubisoft to present ‘The Coon & Friends Experience’ featuring real-world items from the ‘South Park: The Fractured But Whole’ video game.

NEW YORKComedy Central kicks off its must-see events at the 2016 Comi-con on Thursday, July 21. There will be Back-to-back panels from 6:00-7:30 p.m. featuring Drunk History (Moderator Jack McBrayer; Co-Creator, Host, Director Derek Waters; series recurring guest stars Mae Whitman, Steve Berg and Duncan Trussell), followed by new animated series Legends of Chamberlain Heights (Moderator Erykah Badu, Co-Creators, Producers Josiah Johnson, Quinn Hawking, Executive Producer, Co-Creator Brad Ableson, Executive Producer, Showrunner Devon Shepard and Co-Executive Producer Carl Jones). Both panels will take place in the Indigo Ballroom at the Hilton Bayfront.

On Friday, July 22 at 5:00 p.m. the Hall H “South Park 20” panel will be moderated by @midnight’s Chris Hardwick. Panelists will discuss the evolution of the series over the last two decades, take questions from fans and provide an exclusive sneak peek of South Park: The Fractured but Whole, the highly-anticipated next-gen video game from Ubisoft and follow-up to the wildly-popular and award-winning South Park: The Stick of Truth (2014).

The centerpiece of the celebration, South Park 20 Experience, will allow fans to explore and insert themselves into 20 iconic and fan favorite scenes. The Hulu Viewing Lounge will be screening episodes across all seasons of South Park. “The Coon & Friends Experience” from Ubisoft featuring real-world items from the highly-anticipated new video game, South Park: The Fractured but Whole will be open to explore. Twenty unique artists will honor South Park’s 20th season with new work that has been curated by world-renowned pop culture artist Ron English. Fans can also visit a retrospective gallery featuring original animation cells from the pilot episode of South Park.

On Friday, July 22, “The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail,” is returning to Comic-Con with their uber popular Los Angeles stand-up show with a free performance at The American Comedy Co. on 818 6th Ave at 8:00 p.m. The Meltdown is gearing up to film its third season on Comedy Central with new episodes airing this fall. Based on the live show which takes place in the back of Meltdown Comics in LA, Jonah Ray and Kumail Nanjiani welcome the biggest names in comedy as they experiment with new bits onstage and hang out backstage.

In addition, musical/performance artist, That Poppy, will broadcast from San Diego as she covers all of the Comedy Central events for Comedy Central’s SnapChat Discover Channel.

  • Thursday, July 21: Comedy Central Presents Drunk History and Legends of Chamberlain Heights panel - (Indigo Ballroom at the Hilton Bayfront Hotel)

6:00-6:45 p.m. Learn about the history of Comedy Central’s Drunk History! -  Derek Waters (Co-Creator/Host/Director) and special guests will walk through how this liquored-up narration of our nation’s history works with the help of an ever-changing cast of intoxicated actors and comedians. Set to premiere its fourth season on September 27, Waters and friends have plenty of stories to share from the making of the show. Fans will get an exclusive sneak peek of the upcoming season, a Q&A with some surprise guests.

6:45-7:30 p.m. Comedy Central’s newest animated series, Legends of Chamberlain Heights, premiers fall this fall. Legends mixes raucous comedy and social commentary, centering on three friends navigating through their freshman year in high-school: “Jamal,” “Grover” and “Milk.” The three basketball benchwarmers tackle life with some wins and some losses, but failure doesn’t faze them since they’re legends…even if it’s just in their own minds. Legends of Chamberlain Heights is executive produced by Bento Box Entertainment’s Joel Kuwahara and Scott Greenberg (Bob’s Burgers, Brickleberry, The Awesomes), along with showrunner Devon Shepard (Being Mary Jane, House of Lies, Weeds). The Simpsons’ veteran artist Brad Ableson developed the original concept with former UCLA basketball players Quinn Hawking and Josiah Johnson, who used their own legendary bench warming experience to provide the inspiration for the main characters.
