CN Teams with WeLoveFine for ‘Steven Universe’ Design Contest

Cartoon Network and WeLoveFine invite fans to submit designs based on the hit show Steven Universe for the first-ever Steven Universe design contest, with special guest judges series creator Rebecca Sugar, supervising director Ian Jones-Quartey, and background artist Steven Sugar.

Do YOU believe in Steven? Then polish your gems, take to the Internet and start designing! Cartoon Network Enterprises and WeLoveFine announced the debut of the first-ever Steven Universe design contest. Beginning today at WeLoveFine.com, artists and fans of Cartoon Network’s original animated comedy series from creator Rebecca Sugar can submit unique designs inspired by the series and its characters for a chance to win one of five prizes – and have their design printed on merchandise! Submissions will be accepted through April 29, and fans will then be able to rate other fans’ designs from May 6 to June 3 with the winners announced in August.

One Grand Prize winner will be selected based on fan ratings and will receive up to $2000 in cash. Three “Judge Picks” will each receive a $300 cash prize and will be hand-picked by three special guest judges: series creator Rebecca Sugar, supervising director Ian Jones-Quartey, and background artist and real-life inspiration for the series’ main character Steven Sugar. Finally, one Runner-Up based on fan ratings will receive a cash prize of $150. All five winning designs will also be used on official Steven Universe merchandise available at WeLoveFine.com.

Steven Universe is about the misadventures of a boy named Steven, the ultimate "little brother" to a team of magical guardians of humanity—the Crystal Gems. Steven may not be as powerful as the Crystal Gems. Or as savvy. And he doesn’t have much control over his powers, which originate from the gem in his bellybutton. But that doesn't stop him from joining Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl on their magical adventures and somehow finding a way to save the day!
