Shout! & Funimation bring acclaimed Chinese animated feature film 12 years in the making to North America.
Ahead of its North American release from Shout! Studios and Funimation, here’s a brand-new clip from Big Fish & Begonia, the epic fantasy adventure written, produced and directed by Xuan Liang and Chun Zhang that entwines new storytelling, mythical legends and lyrical characters from beloved Chinese literary classics.
Already a great box office success overseas, Big Fish & Begonia is one of China’s foremost animated feature films. Many animation enthusiasts, artists and critics alike have heralded the movie’s artistic achievement as the forefront of the burgeoning Chinese animation industry.
Twelve years in the making, this highly-anticipated movie premiered in competition at the 2017 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, and went on to screen at the BFI London Film Festival, the inaugural ANIMATION IS FILM Festival, and the New York International Children’s Film Festival.
Big Fish & Begonia begins screening across Canada and the U.S. on April 6, and will be presented in an English-language version, as well as in Mandarin with English subtitles. The film is rated PG-13 and has a run time of 105 minutes. Manga Entertainment will premiere the film in the United Kingdom on April 18.
