Clifford Leads All Toon Nods At Daytime Emmy

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has announced the nominees for the 28th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards. Leading the toon nominees is CLIFFORD THE BIG RED DOG with five nominations including three in the voice acting category. Receiving nods for Outstanding Children's Animated Program were ARTHUR, CLIFFORD, DRAGON TALES, MADELINE and THE WILD THORNBERRYS. Nominated for Outstanding Special Class Animated Program were ANGELA ANACONDA, BATMAN BEYOND, BUZZ LIGHTYEAR OF STAR COMMAND, ROUGHNECKS: THE STARSHIP TROOPER CHRONICLES and SHERLOCK HOLMES IN THE 22ND CENTURY. John Ritter, Kel Mitchell and Cree Summer all received Outstanding Performer In An Animated Program nominations for their work on CLIFFORD, along with Nathan Lane for TEACHER'S PET and Ruby Dee for LITTLE BILL. BLUE'S CLUE racked up four nominations for Outstanding Writing In A Children's Series, Outstanding Pre-School Children's Series, Outstanding Performer In A Children's Series for Steve Burns and Outstanding Directing In A Children's Series. In the Outstanding Achievement In Sound Mixing Special Class, besides SESAME STREET, all the nominees were cartoons, including ANGRY BEAVERS, ARTHUR, BATMAN BEYOND and X-MEN: EVOLUTION. Nods for Outstanding Achievement In Sound Editing Special Class went to BATMAN BEYOND, CLIFFORD, BUZZ LIGHTYEAR OF STAR COMMAND, JACKIE CHAN ADVENTURES, ROUGHNECKS: THE STARSHIP TROOPER CHRONICLES and X-MEN: EVOLUTION, along with PBS' BETWEEN THE LIONS, which has a mix of live-action and animated segments. The Kids WB!'s BATMAN BEYOND also nabbed a nomination for Outstanding Achievement In Music Direction & Composition. The Daytime Emmy awards will be handed out on Friday, May 18, 2001 in New York City and will be broadcast in the U.S. on NBC.
